14 September 08 - The Torbay Express
The final Torbay Express of the season for 6024 before moving to the Severn Valley Railway unfortunately did not go to plan. After a fine start from Bristol and some excellent running through Bridgewater the tell tale signs of a problem were seen at Cogload Junction and as the train pulled into Taunton it was obvious that 6024 was going no further. Inspection revealed that the front left hand bogie bearing had run hot and with much regret the loco was removed from the train which carried on diesel hauled after a short delay for the arrival of a class 67 from Westbury.
With the kind help of the West Somerset Railway the loco & support coach moved to Bishops Lydeard where she remains for the time being while repairs can be organised. Our sincere apologies to the passengers on the day and Past Time Rail for not being able to continue with the tour as planned. Also, apologies to the Severn Valley Railway and their patrons this weekend for being unable to attend their gala. We hope everyone has a sucessful and enjoyable weekend.
