Repairs the firebox tubeplate have now been completed and accepted by our boiler inspector. Work now moves onto fitting the replacement small tubes that had been removed, prior to a hydraulic test early next month.
We had a successful visit by our VAB for the mechanical examination & paperwork audit for all the society's vehicles, a regular part of the process of renewing our certificate of Engineering Acceptance.
We've now waiting on a specialist contractor to complete the necessary repairs required before getting the loco back in steam and spending some time running in on the West Somerset Railway before joining the Torbay Express pool of engines in the summer.
Our maintenance programme has unfortunately had to be extended due to a suspected problem in the loco's firebox. This was suggested during a boiler examination after some routine repairs that had already been completed satisfactorily. Currently no problem has been confirmed and tests so far have proved inconclusive. Discussions with the relative authorities have taken place and we are proceeding with further investigations to ascertain if any problem exists or not.
